A BILL

TO PROVIDE THAT THE COMMISSIONERS OF ELECTION FOR DORCHESTER COUNTY MUST BE APPOINTED BY THE DORCHESTER COUNTY COUNCIL, AND PROVIDE FOR THE MANNER IN WHICH THEY MUST BE APPOINTED.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Notwithstanding the provisions of Section 7-13-70 of the 1976 Code, the Commissioners of Election for Dorchester County must be appointed by the Dorchester County Council. The council shall appoint seven commissioners of election, one from each election district from which members of the governing body of Dorchester County are elected. The State Election Commission shall verify that at least one of the appointees represents the largest political party and one represents the second largest political party as determined by the composition of the Dorchester County Legislative Delegation. The commissioners shall continue in office until their successors are appointed and qualified.

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
