A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE REVEREND WALTER E. DAVIS OF GREENVILLE COUNTY FOR TWENTY-FIVE YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE AS THE SPIRITUAL LEADER OF ANTIOCH BAPTIST CHURCH AND EXTENDING TO HIM BEST WISHES FOR MANY MORE YEARS OF SERVICE TO HIS CONGREGATION AND THE GREENVILLE COMMUNITY.

Whereas, the Reverend Walter E. Davis, pastor of the Antioch Baptist Church in Greenville, is this year marking twenty-five years as the spiritual leader of the congregation; and

Whereas, the Reverend Walter E. Davis was born in Greenville, South Carolina, and attended Sullivan Elementary, Sterling High School, Greenville Technical College, Morris College, and Morris College School of Religion, Sumter, South Carolina; and

Whereas, he is a popular and dynamic Baptist minister, having recently led the church family in the construction of a beautiful new sanctuary, and serves as moderator of the Reedy River Baptist Association, consisting of more than thirty churches; and

Whereas, his life has been a boon to the greater Greenville community, working diligently in the cause of voter registration and leading housing efforts that have resulted in thirty-four low-income families achieving the great dream of home ownership; and

Whereas, his talents have been put to further use through his service on the Mayor's Housing Task Force, the Greenville Planning Commission, and as a member appointed by Governor Richard W. Riley to the Joint Legislative Committee to Study the Problems of Alcohol and Drug Abuse; and

Whereas, it is appropriate for the members of the General Assembly to pause in their deliberations so that they may recognize the accomplishments of this distinguished son of South Carolina and through this recognition to establish him as an exemplar of devotion to God and his fellow man to be emulated by those who give themselves to the service of their fellows. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, express congratulations to the Reverend Walter E. Davis of Greenville County for twenty-five years of dedicated service as the spiritual leader of Antioch Baptist Church and extend to him best wishes for many more years of service to his congregation and the Greenville Community.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to The Reverend Walter E. Davis.
