TO APPROVE REGULATIONS OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION, RELATING TO GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS (AMENDED), DESIGNATED AS REGULATION DOCUMENT NUMBER 1742, PURSUANT TO THE PROVISIONS OF ARTICLE 1, CHAPTER 23, TITLE 1 OF THE 1976 CODE.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. The regulations of the Board of Education, relating to Graduation Requirements (Amended), designated as Regulation Document Number 1742, and submitted to the General Assembly pursuant to the provisions of Article 1, Chapter 23, Title 1 of the 1976 Code, are approved.
SECTION 2. This joint resolution takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
SUMMARY AS SUBMITTED BY PROMULGATING AGENCY.
Regulation 43-259.(A)(8), Graduation Requirements, has a section pertaining to the passage of the Exit Examination which provides for remedial instruction. Since Act 135 of 1993 repeals the remedial and compensatory programs provided for in Section 59-5-65(9) and Section 59-20-40(7), South Carolina Code of Laws, 1976, as amended, the wording of the above-referenced regulation required amendment. Further, the Alternative Assessment Mechanism to the Written Portion of the Exit Examination (Act 153 of 1993) requires an alternative assessment mechanism for the written portion of the Exit Examination for students with English as a second language and students with documented disabilities. The wording of the regulation has been revised to comply with Act 153, as well. Other revisions in the wording of the regulation have been made for clarification or updating purposes.
