TO APPROVE REGULATIONS OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION, RELATING TO BASIC SKILLS ASSESSMENT PROGRAM - WRITING TEST: MINIMUM STANDARDS OF STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT; SCORING CRITERIA, DESIGNATED AS REGULATION DOCUMENT NUMBER 1753, PURSUANT TO THE PROVISIONS OF ARTICLE 1, CHAPTER 23, TITLE 1 OF THE 1976 CODE.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. The regulations of the Board of Education, relating to Basic Skills Assessment Program - Writing Test: Minimum Standards of Student Achievement; Scoring Criteria, designated as Regulation Document Number 1753, and submitted to the General Assembly pursuant to the provisions of Article 1, Chapter 23, Title 1 of the 1976 Code, are approved.
SECTION 2. This joint resolution takes effect upon approval by the Governor.

Regulation R43-262.6, Basic Skills Assessment Program - Writing Test: Minimum Standards of Student Achievement; Scoring Criteria, contains State Board of Education policy pertaining to the writing tests required by Act 631 of 1978 (Basic Skills Assessment Program). The Alternative Assessment Mechanism to the Written Portion of the Exit Examination (Act 153 of 1993) requires an alternative assessment mechanism for the written portion of the Exit Examination for students with English as a second language and students with documented disabilities. The wording of the regulation has been revised to comply with Act 153, as well. Other revisions in the wording of the regulation have been made for clarification or updating purposes.
