A HOUSE RESOLUTION

EXTENDING CONGRATULATIONS TO MR. JOHN W. FLING OF COLUMBIA ON HIS SELECTION BY THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE, DIVISION ON AGING, AS THE "1994 OUTSTANDING OLDER SOUTH CAROLINIAN".

Whereas, John Wesley Fling of Columbia has been a Good Samaritan all of his life; and

Whereas, Governor Campbell has said of him: "Mr Fling has distinguished himself over the years as one of our State's outstanding humanitarians. His selfless dedication to helping the poor and underprivileged of this State has touched us all."; and

Whereas, John Fling's countless acts of kindness and generosity have touched the lives of many persons, especially children during the Christmas season; and

Whereas, it has been written of him that he has spent forty-five years driving what he calls "the back alleys" of Columbia and South Carolina looking for people in need of food, clothing, shelter, or a helping hand; and

Whereas, his good deeds have been written about in national publications like Parade, Newsweek, and Reader's Digest and have been featured on television on NBC, CBS, and the 700 Club; and

Whereas, he is a remarkable man who possesses a truly loving heart and a talent for helping the recipients of his generosity feel good about themselves; and

Whereas, for all of his accomplishments and endeavors, he has been chosen by the Governor's Office, Division on Aging, as the "1994 Outstanding Older South Carolinian", an honor he richly deserves. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the House of Representatives, by this resolution, extends congratulations to Mr. John W. Fling of Columbia on his selection by the Governor's Office, Division on Aging, as the "1994 Outstanding Older South Carolinian".

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Fling.
