A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE AND WELCOME THE SOUTH CAROLINA STINGRAYS ON THEIR ESTABLISHMENT AS THE FIRST PROFESSIONAL HOCKEY TEAM IN SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, the South Carolina Stingrays will begin playing later this year as a franchise in the

East Coast Hockey League, which will consist of a total of seventeen teams; and

Whereas, the establishment of the Stingrays' franchise marks the first time in history that a professional hockey team has been based in South Carolina; and

Whereas, the North Charleston based Stingrays will wear South Carolina state flag patches on the shoulders of both their home and away jerseys; and

Whereas, the team president and majority owner, Joe Scanlon, has expressed a desire to spread the development of hockey across South Carolina through the future construction of hockey rinks in conjunction with municipalities. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly congratulate and welcome the South Carolina Stingrays on the occasion of their establishment as the first ever professional hockey team based in South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the team president, Joe Scanlon.
