A SENATE RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING THE SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SENATE TO THE FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS OF THE LATE REV. VOIGT KLECKLEY OF OAK GROVE IN LEXINGTON COUNTY.

Whereas, the members of the Senate were deeply saddened to learn of the death of the Rev. Voigt Kleckley of Oak Grove in Lexington County; and

Whereas, Rev. Kleckley, a retired Lutheran minister who had served Lutheran parishes in Atlanta and Plains, Georgia; Corpus Christi, Texas; the Ridge Parish in Leesville, Enon Lutheran Church of Leesville, Emmanual Lutheran Church of West Columbia, St. Jacob's Lutheran Church and Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church of Chapin, and St. John's Lutheran Church of Pomaria was a much beloved, gentle, and caring man whose sudden passing will leave a void in not only the members of his family but a multitude of friends and associates who were proud to call him friend; and

Whereas, Rev. Kleckley was active in his community, an advocate for the Oak Grove area of Lexington County, who served as the Oak Grove correspondent for the Lexington County Chronicle and also as an officer in the Woodmen of the World and Oak Grove Community Club, Saxe Gotha Ministerial Association, the Columbia Camera Club, Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church, and Lutheran Men's Committee of 100. He was also an award-winning amateur photographer; and

Whereas, Rev. Kleckley was an active member of the Lexington County Republican Party since 1969, a delegate to all State Republican Conventions since 1973, President of Cromer Precinct, a member of the Golden Elephant Club, Co-Chairman of the Membership Committee, County Party Photographer Emeritus, chairman of Cromer Precinct poll managers for all primaries as well as for elections and run-offs, and was, on the day of his death, scheduled to receive the 1993 Bill Jackson Award for outstanding service to the Lexington County Republican Party; and

Whereas, he and his dear wife Marie were tireless travelers, escorting local groups to the Holy Land, Russia, and other exotic locations employing on such tours his great skill as a photographer and writer, bringing back engaging accounts and splendid photographs of their travels together; and

Whereas, it is appropriate for the members of the Senate to pause in their deliberations so that they might note the passing of so distinguished a son of Lexington County and South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate express sympathy to the family and many friends of the late Rev. Voigt Kleckley of Oak Grove in Lexington County.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to his widow, Mrs. Marie Kleckley.
