TO CONGRATULATE THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA AT SUMTER FOR OVER THIRTY YEARS OF SERVICE AS AN INSTITUTION OF HIGHER LEARNING SERVING SUMTER AND ITS SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES.
Whereas, the University of South Carolina at Sumter since September 1973, has provided, and continues to provide, the highest quality educational services to those who have entered its doors in search of higher education; and
Whereas, during the past three decades this institution has served more than thirty-two thousand students through undergraduate and graduate programs in daytime and evening classes at its Sumter and Shaw Air Force Base campuses; and
Whereas, additionally more than two thousand individuals have benefited from professional development programs, teleconferences, seminars, and personal interest offerings provided through the Office of Continuing Education and Telecommunications; and
Whereas, having established itself as a center of intellectual and cultural endeavor, the University of South Carolina at Sumter has enriched the lives of many thousands of individuals who have attended lectures on scholarly and popular topics, readings by some of the country's most honored writers, concerts by gifted musicians, performances by noted dance and theatrical troupes, appearances by nationally and internationally acclaimed story tellers, and exhibits of works by talented artists, sculptors, and photographers; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and congratulate this truly fine institution of higher learning for over three decades of service to the students of this State. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly hereby congratulate the University of South Carolina at Sumter for over thirty years of service as an institution of higher learning serving Sumter and its surrounding communities.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the University of South Carolina at Sumter.
