EXPRESSING APPRECIATION TO WILLIAM JEROME (JERRY) MCCORD FOR HIS OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA AS DIRECTOR OF THE DEPARTMENT OF ALCOHOL AND OTHER DRUG ABUSE SERVICES, AND EXTENDING BEST WISHES TO HIM IN HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, William Jerome (Jerry) McCord was born in Manning, received his B.S. degree from Presbyterian College in business administration, earned the M.S.P.H. degree from the University of North Carolina in public health education, and attended the Yale School of Alcohol Studies; and
Whereas, over the years, he has been a member of many prestigious professional affiliations, organizations, and committees where he has contributed greatly to the causes he has believed in and fought for; and
Whereas, he has been professionally recognized and honored numerous times, including receiving the Distinguished Service Award from the South Carolina Correctional Association and the degree of Honorary Doctor of Humanities from Presbyterian College; and
Whereas, Dr. McCord was the Director of the Alcoholism Information Center in Asheville, North Carolina, from 1958-59; and
Whereas, since 1959, he served the citizens of South Carolina at the agency now known as the South Carolina Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services, retiring as that department's director in 1994; and
Whereas, Dr. McCord has been a faithful public servant and his career has been marked by dedication, insight, and leadership. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express appreciation to William J. (Jerry) McCord for his outstanding service to the State of South Carolina as Director of the Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services and extends best wishes to him in his future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that this resolution be presented to Dr. McCord.
