AN ACT TO AMEND ACT 218 OF 1993, AS AMENDED, RELATING TO THE ELECTION OF MEMBERS OF BOARDS OF TRUSTEES OF SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN LEXINGTON COUNTY IN NONPARTISAN ELECTIONS, SO AS TO REVISE THE DATES WHEN NOTICES OF CANDIDACY MAY BE FILED WITH THE COUNTY ELECTION COMMISSION, AND TO AMEND ACT 176 OF 1995, RELATING TO THE ELECTION OF MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF LEXINGTON COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT 1, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT THE FILING PERIOD FOR PERSONS DESIRING TO FILE WRITTEN NOTICES OF CANDIDACY SHALL BE AS PROVIDED IN ACT 218 OF 1993.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
Filing period revised
SECTION 1. Section 3(C) of Act 218 of 1993, as added by Act 602 of 1994, is amended to read:
"(C) All persons desiring to qualify as a candidate for election as a school trustee of any school district of the county shall file written notice of candidacy with the county election commission by noon on August fifteenth but not earlier than noon August first of the year in which the election is to be conducted."
Filing period revised
SECTION 2. The second paragraph of Section 1 of Act 176 of 1995 is amended to read:
"Each member of the board must be elected by the qualified electors of the school district. All persons desiring to qualify as a candidate shall file written notice of candidacy with the county election commission, or with the clerk of court on forms furnished by the commission which forms must be transmitted to the commission by the clerk of court. This notice of candidacy must be a sworn statement and must include the candidate's name, age, residence address, voting precinct, period of residence in the school district, and other information as the county election commission requires. The filing period shall be as provided in Act 218 of 1993."
Time effective
SECTION 3. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
