A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

RECOGNIZING AND SALUTING DIRECTOR GENERAL STANLEY KAO FOR HIS MANY CONTRIBUTIONS TO CULTURAL UNDERSTANDING AND COOPERATION BETWEEN AMERICANS AND THE PEOPLE OF THE PROVINCE OF TAIWAN, REPUBLIC OF CHINA, AND WISHING HIM SUCCESS IN HIS NEW POST IN MALAYSIA.

Whereas, during his tenure with the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Atlanta, Georgia, Director General Stanley Kao was instrumental in bridging the gap of cultural understanding between the State of South Carolina and the Province of Taiwan, Republic of China; and

Whereas, Mr. Kao received his Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from National Taiwan University and his Master of Arts degree in international law and diplomacy from National Chengchi University; and

Whereas, the City of Atlanta was proud to recognize the many accomplishments of Director General Kao to the people of Atlanta and to the people of Taipei and proclaimed February 20, 1996, as "Director General Stanley Kao Day" in Atlanta in a proclamation signed by the Mayor of Atlanta, the Honorable Bill Campbell; and

Whereas, Mr. Kao is leaving this country for a new post in Malaysia on March 16, 1996; and

Whereas, he is an outstanding individual who has garnered the respect and admiration of all who have met him, and he has been a true friend of the State of South Carolina and of all the citizens of the Palmetto State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognizes and salutes Director General Stanley Kao for his many contributions to cultural understanding and cooperation between Americans and the people of the Province of Taiwan, Republic of China, and wishes him success in his new post in Malaysia.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Director General Stanley Kao; the Honorable Bill Campbell, the Mayor of Atlanta; President Lee Teng-hui of the Republic of China; the Honorable Robert C. J. Chen of Sumter; and Robert V. Royall, Secretary of Commerce of the State of South Carolina.
