RECOGNIZING PHIL CHAPPELL OF RICHLAND COUNTY FOR HIS OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO CLEMSON UNIVERSITY AND THE GREATER COLUMBIA CLEMSON CLUB.
Whereas, Phil Chappell of Richland County joined IPTAY, the athletic scholarship organization of Clemson University, in 1947 and soon thereafter became one of the first IPTAY representatives for Richland County; and
Whereas, Mr. Chappell, a scholarship donor to IPTAY, was one of the founding members of the Greater Columbia Clemson Club and has held every office within the organization; he and his lovely wife, Frances, have been especially active in supporting the academic scholarship program of the Greater Columbia Clemson Club, which has been responsible for over thirty students from the Midlands being able to attend Clemson University; and
Whereas, Mr. Chappell is still a very active member of the Greater Columbia Clemson Club and has served as mentor to all recent presidents and other officers of the club; and
Whereas, the 1996 Columbia Clemson Club Spring Festival, scheduled for April 22, 1996, will be declared "Phil Chappell Day" to honor him and his outstanding service to Clemson University and the Greater Columbia Clemson Club; and
Whereas, Phil Chappell is a well-known and successful businessman who also is devoted to community service and improvement; his love for Clemson is practically legendary, and Clemson University is indeed most fortunate to have such an admired, energetic, capable, and dedicated individual as one of its primary backers and supporters. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognizes Phil Chappell of Richland County for his outstanding service to Clemson University and the Greater Columbia Clemson Club.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Chappell.
