A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING SORROW AT THE DEATH OF LONNIE B. NELSON OF RICHLAND COUNTY AND EXTENDING SYMPATHY TO HIS MANY FRIENDS AND ADMIRERS.

Whereas, Lonnie B. Nelson of Richland County passed away on May 21, 1996, at the age of 83; and

Whereas, Mr. Nelson distinguished himself as a gentleman, businessman, involved citizen, member of the Richland County School District Two Board of Trustees from 1946-1969, active member of Dentsville Baptist Church, thirty-three-year member of the South Carolina Forestry Board, dedicated member of the Lions Club, and recognized "Melvin Jones Fellow"; and

Whereas, Lonnie B. Nelson Elementary School was named in honor of Mr. Nelson and his contributions to public education in Northeast Columbia and his overall love of all children; and

Whereas, he was equally well known for his love and dedication to his family, including his wife, Margaret Elizabeth Owens Nelson, and his children, Brenda N. Mims, Iris N. Rhoades, Lonnie B. Nelson, Jr., and Dean Nelson; and

Whereas, we want Mr. Nelson's family and his many friends and admirers to know that they are uppermost in our thoughts and have our deepest sympathy. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express sorrow at the death of Lonnie B. Nelson of Richland County and extend sympathy to his family and his many friends and admirers.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Nelson's family.
