A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY UPON THE DEATH OF REVEREND MARK POTTER OF LAKE CITY AND EXTEND THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Reverend Mark Potter from a tragic automobile accident on Christmas Day, December 25, 1997, at the young age of fifty-eight; and

Whereas, Reverend Potter was born in New Bern, North Carolina, the son of the late Mark Potter, Sr., and Hannah Davis Potter; and

Whereas, Reverend Potter was a graduate of New Bern High School and Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Georgia; and

Whereas, Reverend Potter began preaching in 1964 at Aiken Pentecostal Holiness Church and continued his pastoral service to include Holy Trinity in Andrews, Georgetown Pentecostal Holiness Church and Barrineau Pentecostal Holiness Church; and

Whereas, Reverend Potter was elected Superintendent of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church, South Carolina Conference of the Pentecostal Holiness Church in 1993 and served continuously until his untimely death; and

Whereas, Reverend Potter was a member of the General Board of Administration of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church, Emmanuel College Board of Education (Franklin Springs, Ga.), Southwestern College Board of Education (Oklahoma City, Okla.); and

Whereas, Reverend Potter served with distinction as a member of the South Carolina National Guard and co-chaired as Disaster Relief Coordinator in conjunction with the American Red Cross; and

Whereas, Reverend Potter was Chaplain of the South Lynches Fire Department, an active firefighter and a member of the fellowship of Christian Firefighters; and

Whereas, Reverend Potter helped bring to reality the "mobile feeding kitchen" which has the capacity to provide food and relief for thousands of people who encounter unfortunate circumstances such as homelessness and other disasters like Hurricanes Fran and Bertha; and

Whereas, Reverend Potter leaves a legacy of selfless dedication and devotion to God and to the people of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly express profound sorrow upon the death of Reverend Mark Potter and extend sympathy to his family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to

the family of Reverend Mark Potter.
