TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE TO THE BATTERY CREEK HIGH SCHOOL "LADY DOLPHINS" GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM AND COACHES ON WINNING THE 1997-98 CLASS AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
Whereas, the Battery Creek High School "Lady Dolphins" girls basketball team of Burton, South Carolina, in Beaufort County captured the AAA girls state basketball championship by defeating the Lady Shamrocks of Eau Claire High School at the Carolina Coliseum in Columbia; and
Whereas, the Lady Dolphins finished the season with the state championship and a record of 26-1, the best record in school history; and
Whereas, the Lady Dolphins earned their fourth consecutive Region 8-AAA championship by finishing with an undefeated (10-0) conference mark; and
Whereas, the Lady Dolphins were also crowned champions of The Battery Creek Classic and The Sugar Classic in Savannah, Georgia; and
Whereas, Head Coach Joseph Stroman, Jr., and Assistant Coaches Connie Singleton and Arnold C. Mitchell, Jr., exhibited tremendous leadership and guidance throughout the season; and
Whereas, the Lady Dolphins championship basketball team includes the following young ladies: Unicka Brown; Jamie Powell; Lanora Brown; Romona Delaney; TaKisha Evans; Tamika Dawson; Adrienne Lamb; Abby Armstrong; Latasha Pusha; Catherine Tolbert; Lakeshia Greene; Decole Shoemate-Marshall; Charity Heyward; Angelik S. McLeod and Saundra L. Jackson; and
Whereas, the Lady Dolphins of Battery Creek High School have brought well-deserved recognition upon their school, county and state that will forever be reflected in our state and local history books. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, publicly recognize and congratulate the Battery Creek High School "Lady Dolphins" girls basketball team and coaches on winning the AAA state basketball championship.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Head Basketball Coach Joseph Stroman, Jr.
