A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING THE SINCERE APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO HENRY J. CAUTHEN FOR OVER THIRTY YEARS OF DEDICATED AND DEVOTED SERVICE AS PRESIDENT OF SOUTH CAROLINA EDUCATIONAL TELEVISION, UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT.

Whereas, Henry J. Cauthen was one of the founders of SCETV as an experiment in educational television at Dreher High School in 1958; and

Whereas, Henry J. Cauthen became president of SCETV in 1965 and led the agency through thirty-three years of growth and success; and

Whereas, Henry J. Cauthen committed his life's work to developing and implementing a world-renowned educational television network; and

Whereas, Henry J. Cauthen was instrumental in the purchase and renovation of ETV's state-of-the-art Telecommunications Center; and

Whereas, Henry J. Cauthen directed the development of ETV's statewide transmission network establishing eleven television transmitters, including four regional stations, eight radio transmitters, a statewide ITFS network and microwave system and a thirty-two channel digital satellite system; and

Whereas, Henry J. Cauthen is a respected statewide and national leader in the industry representing ETV as a member of the South Carolina Broadcaster's Association, the Southern Educational Communications Association, America's Public Television Stations, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting; and

Whereas, Henry J. Cauthen worked alongside the ETV Endowment to produce and purchase quality television programming that teaches and inspires all South Carolinians; and

Whereas, Henry J. Cauthen is a true public servant whose vision and leadership has advanced public broadcasting in South Carolina to new heights and innovation never imagined. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, hereby express gratitude and sincere appreciation for over thirty years of dedicated and devoted service to South Carolina Educational Television and the State of South Carolina, upon the occasion of his retirement, and wish him many more years of health and prosperity.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Henry J. Cauthen.
