A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

COMMENDING AND THANKING NANCY MALLOY HAWKINS FOR HER EXCELLENT SERVICE TO RICHLAND SCHOOL DISTRICT ONE, AND WISHING HER HAPPINESS UPON HER RETIREMENT.

Whereas, Nancy Malloy Hawkins began working for Richland School District One in 1975 as a business education teacher at Columbia's Dreher High School; and

Whereas, in 1980 Ms. Hawkins became Richland District One's business education consultant; and

Whereas, she holds B.A. and M.Ed. degrees from the University of South Carolina; and

Whereas, since 1977 she has been an adjunct professor at the University of South Carolina; she is a member of the South Carolina Business Education Association, the National Business Education Association, and Delta Kappa Gamma Society International; in 1980 she was named "Teacher of the Year" for Dreher High School, and she also received the 1996-97 "South Carolina Business Education Distinguished Service Award for Outstanding Supervision"; and

Whereas, she is retiring in 1998 from Richland District One as the school district's business education consultant; and

Whereas, Nancy Hawkins is a dedicated professional who has always worked for excellence in public education; she is highly respected and admired by her peers and by the students she has taught; and she has been, because of her intelligence, diligence, and leadership, a tremendous asset to the efforts and success of Richland District One; and

Whereas, we are delighted to have this opportunity to accord Ms. Hawkins the special recognition she deserves. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commends and thanks Nancy Malloy Hawkins for her excellent service to Richland School District One and wishes her happiness upon her retirement.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Ms. Hawkins and the Superintendent of Richland District One.
