A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR MR. ERNEST EUGENE McALHANEY ON THE OCCASION OF HIS ONE HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY.

Whereas, on January 17, 1997, Mr. Ernest Eugene McAlhaney will celebrate his one hundredth birthday; and

Whereas, Mr. McAlhaney's family includes a son, a daughter, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and

Whereas, Mr. McAlhaney comes from a family that has served with distinction in the armed forces of our nation; and

Whereas, he is an active and long-time member of Main Street United Methodist Church; and

Whereas, Mr. McAlhaney gave dedicated military service in the United States Navy during World War I; and

Whereas, he is an authentic son of a Confederate War veteran; and

Whereas, he is an admired member of the General Wade Hampton Camp Number 273 of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans in Columbia, South Carolina; and

Whereas, Mr. McAlhaney is an active member of American Legion Post Number 6 and is retired after many years of service with the United States Post Office; and

Whereas, Mr. McAlhaney has been married for 72 years to his beloved wife, the former Ethel Murray, who will celebrate her ninety- fifth birthday on January 27, 1997. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly congratulate Mr. Ernest Eugene McAlhaney on the occasion of his one hundredth birthday, and commend him for his honorable military and civic service to the State and Nation.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. McAlhaney and his family.
