A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING THE ABBEVILLE HIGH SCHOOL PANTHERS ON WINNING THE 1996 CLASS AA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP IN FOOTBALL.

Whereas, the Abbeville High School Panthers won the 1996 Class AA state football crown this past December by defeating the Allendale-Fairfax Tigers 35-0; and

Whereas, with the victory in the state championship game, the Panthers of Abbeville High concluded a perfect 15-0 season; and

Whereas, the 1996 crown marked the first time the Panthers have won two state championships in one decade, both of these under Head Coach Dennis Botts; the other crown in the 1990's came in 1991, and Abbeville was state champion also in 1971 and 1981; and

Whereas, Coach Botts and his excellent staff provided the Panthers with superb coaching and support; and

Whereas, the Panthers' talent, determination, hard work, and unity paid off in a big way in 1996; and

Whereas, their 1996 state title in football is an accomplishment highly deserving of recognition. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulates the Abbeville High School Panthers on winning the 1996 Class AA state championship in football.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Panther football team of Abbeville High School in care of Head Coach Dennis Botts.
