A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

COMMENDING AND THANKING DEPUTY GREG SMITH OF THE LEXINGTON COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE AND TERRY ALEXANDER OF THE STATE LAW ENFORCEMENT DIVISION (SLED) FOR THEIR EFFORTS IN RESOLVING THE ST. JOHN BAPTIST CHURCH INVESTIGATION.

Whereas, Deputy Greg Smith of the Lexington County Sheriff's Office provided information that initiated the investigation and led to the arrest of subjects responsible for the arson of St. John Baptist Church in Lexington County; and

Whereas, Terry Alexander of the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) was the initial arson investigator assigned by SLED to this particular investigation and worked closely with the Lexington County Sheriff's Office on this case; and

Whereas, the efforts of these two gentlemen were instrumental in resolving hate crimes relating to St. John Baptist Church; these individuals are dedicated and highly professional; and their efforts contributed to a welcome conclusion to a very difficult investigation; and

Whereas, their work in this regard was outstanding and they are greatly deserving of special recognition and thanks. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commends and thanks Deputy Greg Smith of the Lexington County Sheriff's Office and Terry Alexander of the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) for their efforts in resolving the St. John Baptist Church investigation.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Deputy Greg Smith and to Sheriff James R. Metts at the Lexington County Sheriff's Office and to Terry Alexander and Chief Robert M. Stewart at SLED.
