A HOUSE RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING PARK MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH ON ONE HUNDRED TWENTY-FIVE YEARS OF CONTINUOUS CHRISTIAN SERVICE TO THE BARNWELL AND AIKEN AREAS.

Whereas, Park Missionary Baptist Church was organized on Sunday, April 14, 1872 by Reverend Hardy Sapp; and

Whereas, the church was located near Myers Mill on property now owned by the Savannah River Site in Barnwell County; and

Whereas, the church was relocated to its present site in 1952; and

Whereas, dedication services were held on Sunday, October 1, 1978, for the present sanctuary, preceded by a three-night revival; and on December 2, 1990, Reverend Alex E. Williams was installed as the church's eighth pastor; and

Whereas, the church is known lovingly by the members and the community as "The Park"; The Park has grown tremendously in the past one hundred twenty-five years and is today a dynamic and flourishing congregation; and

Whereas, The Park is committed to serving the community and has richly succeeded in this endeavor over the years in countless ways; and

Whereas, on April 12 and 13, 1997, Park Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate one hundred twenty-five years of continuous Christian service to the Barnwell and Aiken areas; and

Whereas, The Park's present pastor is the Reverend Alex E. Williams, and Deacon George Dunbar is the Founders Day Chairman; and

Whereas, we wish to take this opportunity to salute everyone connected with the church in any way and to let them know that we share their joy on this splendid occasion. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulates Park Missionary Baptist Church on one hundred twenty-five years of continuous Christian service to the Barnwell and Aiken areas.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Park Missionary Baptist Church.
