EXPRESSING SORROW AT THE DEATH OF THE HONORABLE HARRY M. LOWDER OF TURBEVILLE AND EXTENDING SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS.
Whereas, the Honorable Harry M. Lowder of Turbeville died March 18, 1997, at the age of seventy-two; and
Whereas, Mr. Lowder was a native of Clarendon County; he was a graduate of Clemson University and received a master's degree in school administration from the University of South Carolina; and he was an Air Force veteran of World War II; and
Whereas, Mr. Lowder served the State's public schools for thirty-six years as a teacher and a superintendent; after teaching for six years, he served as Superintendent of Pleasant Hill Area Schools in Georgetown County, St. Stephen Area Schools in Berkeley County, and Dillon County School District 1, Lake View; and
Whereas, he was a member of the National and State Association of School Administrators, and the South Carolina Education Association's State Policy Commission; he also served as a member of the High School Athletic League Committee; and
Whereas, he was a Mason and past master and past district deputy grand master of the 30th Masonic District; he was a Shriner and a member of the Omar Jets; he served as a member of the Turbeville Town Council and was a member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church; he was also a member of the American Legion and a former member of the Lions Club, having served as president several times; and
Whereas, Harry Lowder was dedicated to excellence in public education, and he was an outstanding public servant as a member of the Turbeville Town Council; he gave freely of his time, talents, energy, and resources to countless civic and community causes and endeavors; he was an outstanding individual who was admired and loved by all who knew him, and his presence will be missed greatly. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, expresses sorrow at the death of the Honorable Harry M. Lowder of Turbeville and extends sympathy to his family and friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Lowder's family, Pine Grove United Methodist Church, and the Mayor and Town Council of Turbeville.
