TO APPROVE REGULATIONS OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION, RELATING TO PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES (REPEAL), DESIGNATED AS REGULATION DOCUMENT NUMBER 1985, PURSUANT TO THE PROVISIONS OF ARTICLE 1, CHAPTER 23, TITLE 1 OF THE 1976 CODE.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. The regulations of the Board of Education, relating to Professional Development Opportunities (Repeal), designated as Regulation Document Number 1985, and submitted to the General Assembly pursuant to the provisions of Article 1, Chapter 23, Title 1 of the 1976 Code, are approved.
SECTION 2. This joint resolution takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
SUMMARY AS SUBMITTED BY PROMULGATING AGENCY.
The Professional Development Opportunities regulation predates the passage of the Early Childhood Development and Academic Assistance Act of 1993 (Act 135), which requires professional development to be coordinated with mandated five-year school and district plans for improvement. The repeal of this regulation will allow schools and districts the flexibility to better respond to the requirements of Act 135.
