A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO THE SOUTH AIKEN HIGH SCHOOL "LADY THOROUGHBREDS" GIRLS' TENNIS TEAM, COACHES, AND STAFF FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON BY WINNING THE 1997 CLASS AAAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are proud to have an opportunity to recognize the South Aiken High School "Lady Thoroughbreds" Girls' Tennis Team on their successful 1997 season; and

Whereas, the Lady Thoroughbreds finished their season as runner-up in Region 3-AAAA with a region record of 11-1; and

Whereas, with a win-loss record of 16-1, the Lady Thoroughbreds defeated Mauldin High School 7-0, Irmo High School 4-1, and Spartanburg High School 4-1 to win the Upper State Championship; and

Whereas, the Lady Thoroughbreds' last adversary was Wando High School, the game ended with a 4-2 triumph to capture the 1997 Class AAAA State Championship; and

Whereas, the excellent coaching of Head Coach Barbara Sproull, along with Assistant Coach Jennifer Sproull, clearly paid significant dividends for the Lady Thoroughbreds by their winning this prestigious championship; and

Whereas, deserving of recognition this exceptional team consisted of: Heather Casey, Jacki Deason, Meredith Dukes, Erika Eles, Audrey George, Allison Lee, Elizabeth Sauerborn, Katie Sintich, and Samantha Williams; and

Whereas, the talented South Aiken Girls' Tennis Team played hard to bring the victory banner home, and the General Assembly commends these fine young ladies and their coaches for their accomplishments during the 1997 season. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, extend congratulations to the South Aiken High School "Lady Thoroughbreds" Girls' Tennis Team, coaches, and staff for an outstanding season by winning the 1997 Class AAAA State Championship.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Head Coach Barbara Sproull.
