CONGRATULATING DENTON T. JOHNSON, FIRST EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE COMBINED AIKEN COUNTY REGISTRATION AND ELECTION COMMISSION, FOR HIS DISTINGUISHED PUBLIC SERVICE IN THAT POSITION ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT LATER THIS YEAR AND WISHING FOR HIM IN RETIREMENT HEALTH AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HIS ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives note that Mr. Denton T. Johnson of Graniteville in Aiken County is retiring as executive director of the Aiken County Registration and Election Commission at the end of this year; and
Whereas, Denton Johnson in 1991 was appointed the first executive director of the newly considered commission; and
Whereas, in that position he has guided the commission in a period of great growth, with the number of electors increasing from 44,000 to over 70,000, with excellent training for poll managers, high speed vote tabulation, modern computers, and accurate records; and
Whereas, the good work done has included active efforts to promote voter registration and election participation; and
Whereas, in his community service Denton Johnson has contributed mightily, including his service as a deacon and Sunday School teacher at Hillview Baptist Church in Graniteville, as past president of the Graniteville Exchange Club, past district director of the South Carolina Exchange Club, past president of the South Carolina Exchange Club, and as a member and officer of the South Carolina Association of Registration and Election Officials; and
Whereas, it is appropriate for members of the House of Representatives to pause in their deliberations so that they may honor so distinguished and able a son of South Carolina for his public service and congratulate him on the occasion of his retirement. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives hereby congratulate Denton T. Johnson, first Executive Director of the Combined Aiken County Registration and Election Commission, for his distinguished public service in that position on the occasion of his retirement later this year and wishing for him in retirement health and happiness in all his endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Denton T. Johnson.
