A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING MRS. BESSIE BRANCH MURRAY OF RICHLAND COUNTY ON BEING SELECTED AS THE CHAPPELLE MEMORIAL AFRICAN METHODIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH'S MOTHER OF THE YEAR FOR 1998.

Whereas, Mrs. Bessie Branch Murray of Richland County has been selected as the Chappelle Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Church's Mother of the Year; and

Whereas, she is the daughter of the late Herbert and Ruth Branch; and

Whereas, Mrs. Murray is married to Mr. William Murray III, and together they are the proud parents of three children and the doting grandparents of six grandchildren; and

Whereas, she is a 1961 graduate of the Rich-Lex High School; and

Whereas, Mrs. Murray has been a member of Chappelle Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Church since 1973; and

Whereas, she serves her church in numerous capacities, including as a member of the Floral Club, and Senior Missionary, and as a Class Leader, Junior Steward, Secretary of the Senior Usher Board, Treasurer of the Gospel Choir, Vice President of the Local Lay Organization, and Director of Youth Activities of the Columbia District Lay Organization; and

Whereas, Mrs. Murray is a member of the N.A.A.C.P., Zeta Amica of Columbia, is South Eastern Region President of Zeta Amica, which includes the States of Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina; and

Whereas, she is employed by Dr. and Mrs. Gal Margalit of the City of Columbia and is a travel agent for Travel Smart of Plantation, Florida; and

Whereas, Mrs. Murray is a dynamic, active, dedicated, charming, and loving person who is admired by all who know her, and we are very proud of her achievements and are happy to have this opportunity to recognize and salute this outstanding individual. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulates Mrs. Bessie Branch Murray of Richland County on being selected as the Chappelle Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Church's Mother of the Year for 1998.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to

Mrs. Murray.
