A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO LIEUTENANT MALCOLM CAMERON OF THE CHESTER COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT UPON BEING SELECTED AS THE LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER OF THE YEAR" FOR THE MIDLANDS REGION OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are delighted to note that Lieutenant Malcolm Cameron of Chester County was chosen as the "Law Enforcement Officer of the Year" for the Midlands Region of South Carolina; and

Whereas, Lieutenant Cameron spent twenty years with the Chester Police Department before joining the Chester County Sheriff's Department in 1991 to become a community policing specialist; and

Whereas, he is known in the community for his balloon tricks and community safety programs; and

Whereas, Lieutenant Cameron is a familiar figure in Chester County schools and churches, where he offers tips on crime prevention while passing out balloon critters; and

Whereas, a committee of law enforcement representatives from nine agencies chose three nominees from each region of South Carolina (Piedmont, Pee Dee, Midlands, and Low Country); and

Whereas, a committee from the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce chose a winner from each region -- followed by the difficult task of selecting a statewide winner; and

Whereas, the awards are intended to honor the men and women who dedicate their lives to ensure the safety of their fellow South Carolinians; and

Whereas, Lieutenant Cameron earned the recognition from his counterparts all across the Palmetto State who have participated with him in various conferences and camps. He also has taught crime prevention programs in out-of-state conferences and in Canada; and

Whereas, Lieutenant Cameron is a skillfull, totally committed law enforcement officer with the utmost competence and displays the highest professional standards; and

Whereas, Lieutenant Malcolm Cameron has labored unceasingly to make law enforcement work in South Carolina and is greatly deserving of recognition, commendation, and gratitude by the General Assembly, as well as the citizens of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina hereby express their congratulations to Lieutenant Malcolm Cameron of the Chester County Sheriff's Department upon being selected as the "Law Enforcement Officer of the Year" for the Midlands Region of South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Lieutenant Malcolm Cameron and to Chester County Sheriff John Wayne Holcombe.
