TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND DR. C. C. STEWART, SR., FOR HIS DEDICATION AND DEVOTION TO NICHOLTOWN BAPTIST CHURCH, ON THE OCCASION OF THE FIFTY-FIFTH ANNIVERSARY OF ITS FOUNDING ON MAY 25, 1997.
Whereas, Dr. C. C. Stewart, Sr., as a dedicated servant of God, became pastor of Nicholtown Baptist Church in Greenville, South Carolina in 1942; and
Whereas, Nicholtown Baptist Church will celebrate the fifty-fifth anniversary of its founding on May 25, 1997 at 5:00 p.m.; and
Whereas, Dr. Stewart is a Christian leader in the church and community who is a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather; and
Whereas, Dr. Stewart's deep concern and commitment to improving the quality of life for the people of the Greenville community led him to become active in the political arena and he has attained wide-spread notoriety for his voter registration drive in his church; and
Whereas, Dr. Stewart serves as a representative of South Carolina Baptist Global Mission for the Southeast region, a trustee of Martin Webb, a member of Greenville Ministerial Association, a member of Progressive National Baptist Convention and a member of the Reedy River Association; and
Whereas, under Dr. Stewart's fifty-five years of progressive vision and guidance, Nicholtown Baptist Church has been remodeled three times and recently has instituted a tutorial program for students, a city basketball team and a Bible training class; and
Whereas, Dr. Stewart's steadfast leadership in his community and his Church is exemplified by the church membership, which has included and includes a city councilman, a county councilman, two members of the South Carolina State House of Representatives and one South Carolina State Senator; and
Whereas, Dr. Stewart has been recognized by the Mayor of Greenville by having a day named in his honor and has received many other awards and honors for his outstanding record of public service too numerous to mention in this resolution. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and commend Dr. C. C. Stewart, Sr., for his selfless dedication and devotion to Nicholtown Baptist Church, on the occasion of its fifty-fifth anniversary on May 25, 1997.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. C. C. Stewart, Sr.
