A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND MS. KAREN WHITAKER FOR HER OUTSTANDING AND DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE LOWCOUNTRY COMMUNITY ACTION AGENCY HEAD START PROGRAM.

Whereas, Ms. Karen Whitaker of Walterboro has worked with the Lowcountry Community Action Agency Head Start Program since its inception in the 1960's and was honored for her work on Saturday, April 19, 1997; and

Whereas, Ms. Whitaker graduated from Colleton High School and received a degree in early childhood education from South Carolina State University in 1967 and has continued her education through various programs at Voorhees College, Allen University, the College of Charleston and Charleston Southern University; and

Whereas, Ms. Whitaker worked as a fifth grade teacher at Smoaks Elementary School in Colleton County and with the Lowcountry Community Action Agency Head Start Program, where she became Head Start Director; and

Whereas, Ms. Whitaker has served in various positions in the Head Start Program including teacher, parent involvement coordinator, social service coordinator, career development coordinator, and education coordinator; and

Whereas, Ms. Whitaker is a dedicated, dynamic and talented individual and countless persons have been touched and shaped by her devotion and service; and

Whereas, the citizens of the Lowcountry and indeed, of the whole State of South Carolina are grateful for her excellent work and are delighted to have this opportunity to afford Ms. Whitaker special recognition. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognizes and commends Karen Whitaker for her outstanding and dedicated service to the Lowcountry Community Action Agency Head Start Program.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Ms. Whitaker.
