A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE FOR THE DISTINGUISHED SERVICE OF MRS. LINDA AMICK OF IRMO UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT FROM THE SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES AND TO PUBLICLY RECOGNIZE, COMMEND, AND CONGRATULATE THIS TRULY FINE, OUTSTANDING PUBLIC SERVANT.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate have recently learned with deep regret that Mrs. Linda Amick will retire after thirty-two years in State Government; and

Whereas, Linda has devoted twenty-seven of these thirty-two years to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and her final day of employment is June 30, 1997; and

Whereas, in 1971, Linda Amick began her career pounding on the foundation of the structure known as the Wildlife Department License Section; and

Whereas, while James Webb, Executive Director of the Wildlife Department and Dr. James Timmerman, Director of the Marine Resources Division, foresaw an expanded use of a computer system to record biological data, License Clerk Linda Amick looked to the new computer system to help reduce the effort required to record, track, and account for books of licenses that were flowing through the License Section; and

Whereas, she was promoted to License and Receipting Supervisor and still buzzes about the office like a hummingbird, stopping and dipping head first at this desk and then at that desk. Always aware of what is happening with all eleven hundred of her "License Agents", making sure that each and every one is serviced promptly and effectively by one of the four License Coordinators that are part of the permanent field staff. Linda's responsibilities have expanded far beyond just the "recording, tracking, and accounting for books of licenses" because she understood how to utilize the possibilities of information technology and how to deliver the best customer services available; and

Whereas, Linda implemented and adapted several concepts that were examples of how to deliver a license document to help process the information timely, at a minimum cost level, and to maintain satisfactory levels of license documents at statewide locations. Until the introduction of point-of-sale license systems, the Wildlife and Marine Resources Department's License System was a national example of the ideal license accountability system; and

Whereas, though her professional contributions are many, it is her personal contributions to her family, her coworkers, and her community that best define Linda as a person; and

Whereas, Linda, along with her husband, Glenn, have raised three children: Billy, a PE teacher/coach in Cheraw; Brian, a banker living in Charlotte; and Betsy, a graduate student majoring in health administration; and

Whereas, next to the word volunteer in the dictionary, there must be a picture of Linda Amick. She seems tireless when it comes to her commitment to activities in her church which include organist, youth counselor, and former Sunday School teacher. Lexington Recreation Commission has always counted Linda as one of their top softball coaches and umpires; and

Whereas, since she has so much "spare time" on her hands she has served on such worthwhile boards as Keep America Beautiful; and

Whereas, Linda Amick is a genuine role model through her hard work, welcoming new challenges, and contributions as a true professional in state government; and

Whereas, we would like to take this opportunity to express our deepest thanks to Linda Amick for a job well done and to wish her Godspeed in all future endeavors. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate hereby express their appreciation for the distinguished service of Mrs. Linda Amick of Irmo upon the occasion of her retirement from the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and to publicly recognize, commend, and congratulate this truly fine, outstanding public servant.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Linda Amick.
