TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 2-1-75 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT BEGINNING WITH SENATORIAL DISTRICTS REAPPORTIONED AS A RESULT OF THE CENSUS TAKEN IN THE YEAR 2000, ANY COUNTY WITH A POPULATION THAT IS AT LEAST FORTY-FIVE PERCENT OF THE AVERAGE POPULATION OF THE FORTY-SIX SENATORIAL DISTRICTS AS REAPPORTIONED MUST BE WHOLLY INCLUDED WITHIN A PARTICULAR SENATORIAL DISTRICT.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 2-1-75. Beginning with senatorial districts reapportioned as a result of the census taken in the year 2000, any county with a population that is at least forty-five percent of the average population of the forty-six senatorial districts as reapportioned must be wholly included within a particular senatorial district."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
