A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

HONORING CAROLYNE S. WILLIAMS ON THE OCCASION OF THE EXPIRATION OF HER TERM ON THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION AND RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING HER OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT AND LEADERSHIP IN SOUTH CAROLINA'S EDUCATION COMMUNITY.

Whereas, Carolyne Louise Sailors Williams was born March 13, 1947 in Wetumpka, Alabama, and currently resides in Barnwell, South Carolina; and

Whereas, Carolyne's education background includes a high school diploma from Ninety Six High School, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Winthrop College, and Masters in Counseling from the University of South Carolina, as well as becoming an Educational Specialist in Administration with a concentration in finance; and

Whereas, Carolyne has been employed with Barnwell School District 45 as a teacher from 1970-1975, as Assistant Principal from 1975-1977, Principal from 1977-1990, and Assistant Superintendent from 1990-present; and

Whereas, Carolyne is a member of the Barnwell County Chamber of Commerce Board, where she was selected Chamber Woman of the Year in 1999, and also a member of the State Board of Education, where she served as chairman for 1999; and

Whereas, Carolyne is a member or serving on the following boards or committees: Barnwell Presbyterian Church, Community Bank & Trust Board, ECO Education Committee, Heritage Corridor, USC-Salk Leadership Center, Director of Summer Feed Program for Barnwell County, Barnwell County Beautification Committee, National Association of Female Executives, Phi Delta Kappa, Southeastern Association of School, Colleges and University Staffing, South Carolina Association of School Administrators, American Association of School Administrators; and

Whereas, Carolyne is a strong leader in public education in the area and throughout South Carolina by representing the interests of Barnwell School District 45 as well as Districts 19 and 29; and

Whereas, Carolyne cares deeply about children and well-rounded educational opportunities for them, as well as working with industry to provide students with job opportunities in the community in which they grew up; and

Whereas, Carolyne is respected by her peers and admired by the business community for her work in the field of education, while retaining her strong sense of family and friends and the important roles they play in her life. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, honors Carolyne S. Williams on the occasion of the expiration of her term on the State Board of Education, and extends appreciation for her dedication and leadership in the education community.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Carolyne S. Williams.
