TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE UPON LEARNING OF THE DEATH OF THE HONORABLE JOHN WILLIAM "BULL" FOOSHE, FORMER MAYOR OF MCCORMICK, AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the Senate where saddened to learn that the honorable John William "Bull" Fooshe, former Mayor of McCormick, passed away December 20, 1999 at the age of 81; and

Whereas, "Bull" Fooshe was born in McCormick to the late Perrin Griffin and Lucy Reynolds Fooshe; and

Whereas, he was a graduate of McCormick High School and rendered distinguished service to his country serving in the United States Army during World War II; and

Whereas, Mr. Fooshe was a lifetime resident and long-time public servant of McCormick serving his community for more than thirty-five years; and

Whereas, before serving as mayor from 1980 to 1990, he also had been a commissioner for twenty-six years on the McCormick Commission of Public Works; and

Whereas, Mr. Fooshe formerly owned and operated J. W. Fooshe Incorporated, a successful Gulf Oil Jobbership; and

Whereas, he was a faithful member of McCormick United Methodist Church and the Wesley Adult Sunday School Class; and

Whereas, "Bull" Fooshe was also very active in other community organizations as a member of Mine Masonic Lodge Number 117, the Scottish Rite Body and Hejaz Shrine Temple A.A.O.N.M.S., and he was a former member of the McCormick Lions Club and the Thomas J. Lyon Post Number 19 American Legion; and

Whereas, he was the proud and deserving recipient of the Masonic Lodge's Albert Gallatin Mackey Medal; and

Whereas, J. M. "Bull" Fooshe was a devoted husband to Kathryn Self Fooshe, the loving father of Jacqueline Fooshe Court, Rosemary Fooshe Pettus, Kimberly Fooshe Taylor, J. W. Fooshe, Jr., and David Fooshe and the beloved grandfather of eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and

Whereas, the Honorable John William "Bull" Fooshe was an outstanding member of his community and a dedicated public servant, respected and admired by all who knew him and a man who will be greatly missed by the citizens of McCormick County and the Palmetto State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate express their profound sorrow upon learning of the death of the Honorable John William "Bull" Fooshe, former Mayor of McCormick, and extend their deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Kathryn Self Fooshe of McCormick.
