HONORING AND CONGRATULATING THE AIKEN HIGH SCHOOL HORNETS ON WINNING THE CLASS AAAA UPPER STATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.
Whereas, the Aiken High School Hornets advanced from the Region 3 Class AAAA title to claim the Upper State Class AAAA football championship this fall; and
Whereas, the Upper State Title was captured by the Hornets in an extraordinary and dramatic triple overtime 30-23 win against Airport High School; and
Whereas, the Hornet's victory in the Upper State Championship contributed to the team's overall winning season of 12-3; and
Whereas, the Hornets were guided through this season by head coach, Carey Johnson, and assistant coaches Mark Dugar, Pat O'Neil, Russell Palmer, Leon Pope, Gary Reynolds, Jim Staton, Pat Tillotson, and Reid Wightman; and
Whereas, Head Coach Johnson and his able assistants not only provided superb coaching to this fine group of athletes, but also served as outstanding mentors, turning out exceptional young men; and
Whereas, this winning season was also fostered by the loyal support of the school administration, the outstanding leadership of Athletic Director, Mark Crawford and the faithful and enthusiastic support of the Hornet fans; and
Whereas, the Hornets exhibited tremendous teamwork, talent, dedication, and perseverance and are highly deserving of the recognition commensurate with this championship. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That, by this resolution, the South Carolina Senate honors and congratulates the Aiken High School Hornets on winning the Class AAAA Upper State football championship.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Aiken High School principal, athletic director, coaching staff, and team.
