A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

COMMENDING THE EMPLOYEES OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FOR THEIR TIRELESS EFFORTS TO KEEP THE STATE'S HIGHWAYS OPEN AND SAFE DURING THE WINTER SNOW STORM OF 2000.

Whereas, approximately three thousand South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) employees were involved in providing services during the winter snow storm of 2000; and

Whereas, these dedicated state employees worked around the clock to clear our state's major highways of ice and snow, monitored road conditions, and cleared fallen debris; and

Whereas, many SCDOT maintenance employees worked twelve-hour shifts, twenty-four hours a day, for nine consecutive days without a day off to keep our major state highways and interstate highways open; and

Whereas, many SCDOT employees worked around the clock despite personal hardships which included the lack of power or running water in their households; and

Whereas, a twenty-four hour call center maintained at SCDOT Headquarters received more than twelve thousand calls from the public and provided up-to-date road condition information to each caller; and

Whereas, these efforts are only a few of the many measures taken by SCDOT to combat the harsh weather conditions experienced by our State during the winter snow storm of 2000; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly wish to commend the employees of SCDOT under the diligent leadership of Executive Director, Elizabeth S. Mabry. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, commend the employees of the South Carolina Department of Transportation for their tireless efforts to keep the state's highways open and safe during the winter snow storm of 2000.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to South Carolina Department of Transportation Executive Director, Elizabeth S. Mabry.
