A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING THE APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE HONORABLE HARRY W. MILEY, JR., PH.D., FOR HIS DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AS CHAIRMAN OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA BOARD OF ECONOMIC ADVISORS.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly note that Harry W. Miley, Jr., Ph.D., was appointed Chairman of the South Carolina Board of Economic Advisors in November, 1991, by Governor Carroll Campbell; and

Whereas, Dr. Miley, who earned his undergraduate and Ph.D. degrees in economics at the University of South Carolina, with special emphasis in regional economic development, state and local government finance, and natural resource economics, left his position as Associate Director of the Division of Research in the College of Business Administration at USC to join the Campbell administration as senior executive assistant for economic development, and in that capacity served as Governor Campbell's Senior Policy Advisor on the state's economy, employment, workforce training, and overall economic development policy; and

Whereas, in leaving the Governor's Office, Dr. Miley served ably for two years as a member of the Commission on Higher Education while President of the Fontaine Company; and

Whereas, in his eight year tenure as Chairman of the South Carolina Board of Economic Advisors, he served with distinction on the board that performs the revenue forecasts used in the state budget process and worked hard to improve and update the operations of the board and in large measure is responsible for the outstanding professionalism and reputation for quality that makes it a linchpin in the smooth operation of state government; and

Whereas, it is appropriate for members of the General Assembly to pause in their deliberations so that they might honor the outstanding public service of so distinguished a South Carolinian. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly express their deep appreciation to The Honorable Harry W. Miley, Jr., Ph.D., for his distinguished service as Chairman of the South Carolina Board of Economic Advisors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. Miley.
