TO CONGRATULATE B. C. MOORE AND SONS, INC. OF CHERAW FOR MORE THAN SEVENTY-FIVE YEARS OF EXCELLENCE IN RETAIL BUSINESS AS ONE OF THE LARGEST PRIVATELY OWNED DEPARTMENT STORE CHAINS IN THE SOUTHEAST AND FOR ITS GENEROUS CORPORATE SUPPORT OF CHESTERFIELD COUNTY AND THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.
Whereas, when Beauregard Crawford Moore, a native of Chesterfield County, opened his first dry goods store, B. C. Moore and Sons, in Wadesboro, North Carolina in 1923, that was the beginning of one of the largest privately-owned department store chains in the Southeast; and
Whereas, by 1929, Mr. Moore's operation had expanded to include twelve stores, and by 1933, Moore's was serving both Carolinas with a total of nineteen stores; and
Whereas, in 1946, when B. C. Moore and Sons was incorporated stores had been opened throughout the Southeast on the average of one per year for a total of twenty-nine stores; and
Whereas, following the retirement of Mr. Moore, his son, W. Bryan Moore took responsibility of the growing chain as president and general manager; and
Whereas, under the leadership of Mr. W. Bryan Moore, the company not only continued to expand its retail stores, but also developed a wholesale operation; and
Whereas, during his tenure as president, Mr. W. Bryan Moore was the driving force behind the company heading the multi-million dollar company until his retirement in 1972; and
Whereas, today, B. C. Moore and Sons, Inc., has grown to seventy-eight department stores in operation throughout the southeastern states of South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama; and
Whereas, since its beginning, B. C. Moore and Sons has prided itself in providing quality merchandise at reasonable prices while maintaining customer service as its number one priority; and
Whereas, the company and its millions of customers have been well served for these many decades by the company commitment to offer guaranteed satisfaction with every purchase, courteous, competent service storewide, and honest value in quality merchandise, and by fulfilling this commitment, B. C. Moore and Sons has built a reputation that is priceless and a company that has prospered; and
Whereas, B. C. Moore and Sons has not only served the public well for more than seventy-five years, but it has been a generous employer, corporate supporter, neighbor, and friend to the citizens of Chesterfield County, as well as the State of South Carolina; and
Whereas, the General Assembly is pleased to have the opportunity to recognize such a distinguished South Carolina family and an outstanding corporate citizen. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That by this resolution, the South Carolina General Assembly, congratulates B. C. Moore and Sons, Inc., of Cheraw for more than seventy-five years of excellence in retail business as one of the largest privately owned department store chains in the Southeast and for its generous corporate support of Chesterfield County and the State South Carolina.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to B. C. Moore and Sons, Inc..
