A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

EXTENDING THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO THE ANDREW JACKSON HIGH SCHOOL "CONFEDERATES" FOOTBALL TEAM, COACHES, AND OTHER SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR AN EXCEPTIONAL SEASON AND ON CAPTURING THE 1998 CLASS A STATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP FOR THE THIRD STRAIGHT YEAR.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are proud of the Andrew Jackson High School "Confederates" Football Team's overall season record of 12-0; and

Whereas, the Confederates have posted a 40-3 record since they started competing in the Class A Division; and

Whereas, after losing in the finals in 1995, the Andrew Jackson Confederates have won three straight State Championships in 1996, 1997, and 1998; and

Whereas, Head Coach Gene Sease has been named High School Sports Report Class A "Coach of the Year" for three straight years. Coach Sease's philosophy seems to be simple - to take what talent you have and develop a team and game plan around that talent. He convinces his team that they are the best if they work hard and play as a team; and

Whereas, Head Coach Sease, along with Coach Billy Still, Dave Clayton, Calin Hiers, and Kit Alewine, have brought recognition to Andrew Jackson High School after their team's unbelievable season and championship performance; and

Whereas, the Andrew Jackson Football Roster for 1998 included: Seniors, Daniel Bessinger; Luke Clayton; Adam Grubbs; John Paul Jones; Marty Joyner; and Trevor Rentz; Juniors, Bobby Collins; Jimmy Farish; Nicolas Godley; Chris Peters; Jay Toole; and Lee Waltz; Sophomores, Paul Ernst; Wayne Fender; and Joe Martin; Freshmen, Josh Spitzer and Russ Kinard; 8th Grade David Whisenhunt; and Seventh Grade, Gene Rozier and Fred Templeton; and

Whereas, the countless hours of practice, hard work, and sacrifices certainly reflect this superb team's determination; and

Whereas, the students, parents, and school administration of Andrew Jackson High School have provided the support and encouragement necessary to achieve this highest level of consistency in high school football; and

Whereas, the accomplishments of this fine group of athletes this season has brought long deserved recognition not only upon themselves, but upon Andrew Jackson High School, Bamberg County, and the Palmetto State as well. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, extend congratulations to the Andrew Jackson High School "Confederate" Football Team, coaches, and other school officials for an exceptional season and on capturing the 1998 Class A State Football Championship for the third straight year.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Coach Gene Sease.
