TO EXTEND THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF CLAYTON LOWDER, SR., FROM SUMTER COUNTY.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly were saddened to learn of the death of Clayton Lowder, Sr., of Sumter County on April 26, 1999, at the age of eighty-four; and
Whereas, born in Clarendon County on September 9, 1914, he was the son of the late Thomas Junious and Alice Tindal Lowder; and
Whereas, after graduating from Edmunds High School where he was captain of the football team, Mr. Lowder went on to become a successful and well known self-employed farmer and businessman; his businesses included a cotton gin, a farm supply business, and a grocery store; and
Whereas, Mr. Lowder is survived by a large, loving family; he leaves his wife, Madelyn K. Lowder, sons, Clayton Lowder, Jr., Jimmy Lowder, of Sumter, Michael Lowder and Stephen Lowder, and daughters, Alice Lowder Robertson and Betty Jho Lowder of Sumter, fifteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren; and
Whereas, in addition to leaving his wife of the home, children, and grandchildren, Mr. Lowder is survived by a brother, Leon Clyde Lowder of Eastover and three sisters, Jessie Mae Lowder Michaels of Dayton, Ohio, Corrine Lowder Dukes of Manning, and Virginia Lowder Shade of Sumter; he was preceded in death by brothers Tindal Lowder, McLaurin Lowder, T. M. (Marion) Lowder, and Carl Lowder and sisters, Gertrude Lowder Childers and Lydia Lowder Barwick; and
Whereas, he was a long time member of the Westminister Presbyterian Church of Sumter and made many positive contributions to the community; and
Whereas, Clayton Lowder, Sr.'s death represents a tremendous loss to Sumter County, and the State of South Carolina, and we want the members of his family and many friends to know that they are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina extend their deepest sympathy to the family and many friends of Clayton Lowder, Sr., from Sumter County.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the family of Clayton Lowder, Sr.
