A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE JEFFREY SCOTT HOPKINS OF GREENVILLE UPON HIS SELECTION AS THE SOUTH CAROLINA GOVERNOR'S COMMITTEE ON EMPLOYMENT OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES 1999 STUDENT OF THE YEAR.

Whereas, Jeffrey Scott Hopkins is the son of Leanne and Bill Hopkins of Greenville; and

Whereas, Jeff was born with cerebral palsy and has been a student in mainstream academic settings throughout his school years; and

Whereas, Jeff is currently completing the ninth grade at Greenville's Riverside High School; and

Whereas, Jeff is a member of the Beta Club and received the prestigious Greenville County Triumph of the Human Spirit Award in 1998, and he was a member of the National Junior Honor Society at Northwood Middle School; and

Whereas, Jeff enjoys participating in a variety of extracurricular activities, including the Easter Seal BAC Campaign, camping in Flat Rock, North Carolina, and following Clemson basketball; and

Whereas, Jeff maintains an interest in diverse areas such as music, meteorology, volcanoes, and especially steam trains and travel; and

Whereas, Jeff was selected this year as the South Carolina Governor's Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities Student of the Year for his extraordinary accomplishments, academic achievements and challenges he has mastered at school and in his extracurricular activities. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly recognize and heartily applaud the dedicated efforts of Jeffrey Scott Hopkins and the outstanding example Jeff sets for not only his classmates in Greenville but for all of his fellow South Carolinians.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Jeffrey Scott Hopkins.
