A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING EASTSIDE HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC DIRECTOR AND HEAD FOOTBALL COACH, JOHN PARKER CARLISLE III, OF GREENVILLE COUNTY ON RECEIVING THE 1999 NATIONAL INTERSCHOLASTIC ATHLETIC ADMINISTRATORS ASSOCIATION (NIAAA) NATIONAL DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD AND ON THIRTY-FIVE YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS.

Whereas, Coach John Parker Carlisle III, was born in Greenville County, is married to the former Margaret Burbage, and together they are the proud parents of two children; and

Whereas, he is a graduate of Taylors High School, received his Bachelors degree from The Citadel, and has completed graduate studies at Erskine College, the University of South Carolina, and Wofford College; and

Whereas, over his thirty-five year coaching and teaching career, Coach Carlisle has served as Athletic Director and Head Football Coach for Eastside High School for the past twenty-six years; and

Whereas, his football teams: have captured twelve regional playoff berths; were crowned Greenville County Champions in 1977, 1988, 1992, and 1996; and won the South Carolina AAAA State Championship in 1977; and

Whereas, Coach Carlisle is a member of the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA), the South Carolina Athletic Administrators Association, the National Federation of Interscholastic Coaches Association, and the South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association; and

Whereas, he has served: as Executive Director of the South Carolina Athletic Administrators Association since 1992; as Coordinator for the South Carolina Spring Conference for Athletics since 1986; and on the Executive and Finance Committees of the South Carolina High School League since 1997; and

Whereas, Coach Carlisle has received numerous honors, which include being named: The Greenville News-Piedmont County Football Coach of the Year in 1977, 1988, and 1992; The State Newspaper AAAA Football Coach of the Year in 1977; Kellogg's Coach of the Year for South Carolina for 1977; Eastside YMCA Volunteer of the Year for 1982; recipient of the Kiwanis Club of Greenville Distinguished Service Award in 1988; Head Football Coach of the 1990 North-South All Star Game; Head Football Coach of the 1992 Shrine Bowl Team; South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association Athletic Director of the Year in 1991 and 1993; and Carolina Panthers High School Coach of the Week in 1999; and

Whereas, in 1999, the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association presented him with its National Distinguished Service Award for his many years of commitment to high school athletics; and

Whereas, it is only fitting and proper that the members of the South Carolina General Assembly take this opportunity to recognize the many accomplishments of Coach Carlisle. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina hereby congratulate and honor Athletic Director and Head Football Coach, John Parker Carlisle III, of Greenville County on receiving the 1999 National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) National Distinguished Service Award and for thirty-five years of dedicated service to high school athletics.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Coach John Parker Carlisle III.
