A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND REID COGGINS, AN EIGHTEEN-YEAR-OLD HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT FROM FORT MILL, UPON BEING NAMED ONE OF SOUTH CAROLINA'S TOP TWO YOUTH VOLUNTEERS FOR THE YEAR 2000 IN THE PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARDS.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are very pleased to learn that Reid Coggins, an eighteen-year-old high school student from Fort Mill, was named one of South Carolina's top two youth volunteers for the year 2000 in The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, a nationwide program honoring young people for outstanding acts of volunteerism; and

Whereas, the awards program, now in its fifth year, is sponsored by The Prudential Insurance Company of America in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals. More than twenty thousand high school and middle level students were considered for awards in this year's program; and

Whereas, this prestigious award honors young volunteers across America who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to serving their communities; and

Whereas, this outstanding senior at Fort Mill High School as part of his volunteer activities developed and organized a student chapter of the Rotary Interact Club at his school, and among its projects were aid to a local assisted-living home for the elderly, a yearly scrapbook, and a fund-raising drive for international charity relief programs; and

Whereas, the success of the State of South Carolina, the strength of our communities, and the overall vitality of American society depend in great measure upon the dedication of young people like Reid Coggins who uses his considerable talents and resources to serve others; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and congratulate this fine young man on his receipt of this truly deserved award. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly hereby commend Reid Coggins, an eighteen-year-old high school student from Fort Mill, upon being named one of South Carolina's top two youth volunteers for the year 2000 in The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Reid Coggins.
