A HOUSE RESOLUTION

SALUTING MRS. LOIS W. JONES OF LANCASTER COUNTY FOR HER LONGEVITY (ONE HUNDRED THREE YEARS OLD) AND FOR HER DEDICATED SERVICE AND MANY CONTRIBUTIONS TO HER COMMUNITY AND CHURCH.

Whereas, Mrs. Lois W. Jones was born February 7, 1897, in Lancaster County; and

Whereas, her life has spanned three centuries - part of the Nineteenth, all of the Twentieth, and now, a portion of the Twenty-first; and

Whereas, Mrs. Jones was one of eight children born to Benjamin and Priscilla Williams; throughout her one hundred three years of living she has demonstrated great strength and faith, serving as a genuine role model for countless individuals; and

Whereas, on February 15, 1915, she married Mr. Luther Jones, and from this union four children were born; presently her family consists of eight grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren, and seventeen great-great grandchildren; and

Whereas, Mrs. Jones has been a staying force in Heath Springs and a member of Bright Light Baptist Church for approximately eighty years; and

Whereas, even though a broken hip she sustained two years ago has curtailed her hobbies of gardening and quilt-making, still she continues to provide whatever assistance she can to her fellow nursing home members; and

Whereas, Bright Light Baptist Church in the Pleasant Hills community of Heath Springs has provided for "Mrs. Lois Jones Day" on Sunday, March 19, 2000, to honor Mrs. Jones for her longevity and to pay tribute to her loyal and dedicated service to her community and church; and

Whereas, Mrs. Jones is an outstanding lady and a wonderful humanitarian, and we are greatly pleased to be able to recognize her in this special manner. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, heartily salutes Mrs. Lois W. Jones of Lancaster County for her longevity (one hundred three years old) and for her dedicated service and many contributions to her community and church.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Lois W. Jones.
