A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING SERGEANT DOUG WORKMAN OF THE MYRTLE BEACH POLICE DEPARTMENT FOR BEING NAMED THE "POLICE OFFICER OF THE YEAR FOR 1999".

Whereas, Sergeant Doug Workman has served the Myrtle Beach Police Department with honor and distinction since 1987 when he first joined the department; and

Whereas, prior to joining the Myrtle Beach Police Force he attended Southern Ohio College, subsequently joining the United States Air Force in 1983 where he served with the security police and was honorably discharged in 1987; and

Whereas, after joining the Myrtle Beach Police Force in 1987, he moved up the ranks being promoted to corporal in 1993 and sergeant in 1997; and

Whereas, during his thirteen years with the police force Sergeant Workman has served in a variety of assignments including traffic enforcement, patrol duties, and special events; and

Whereas, currently the Sergeant is responsible for the Property and Evidence Section for the department and is a supervisor in the Support Services Division where he is responsible for buildings, grounds, police vehicles, police radios, and all uniforms and equipment; and

Whereas, Sergeant Workman serves the department with the utmost professionalism and integrity, rendering dedicated service to the department and to his fellow police officers; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are pleased to have the opportunity to recognize this outstanding police officer, who brings great pride not only to the Myrtle Beach Police Department but to the City of Myrtle Beach and the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, congratulate Sergeant Doug Workman of the Myrtle Beach Police Department for being named the "Police Officer of the Year for 1999".

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Sergeant Doug Workman.
