A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND MR. THELMAR BETHUNE OF CLARENDON COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF THE FORTIETH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION OF THE MANNING BRANCH OF THE NAACP ON MARCH 6, 1999, AND TO RECOGNIZE MR. BETHUNE'S CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE MANNING BRANCH OF THE NAACP AND HIS OTHER LEADERSHIP ROLES IN CLARENDON COUNTY.

Whereas, it has come to the attention of the members of the South Carolina Senate that the Manning Branch of the NAACP will celebrate its Fortieth Anniversary on March 6, 1999; and

Whereas, Mr. Thelmar Bethune is a charter member of the Manning Branch of the NAACP; and

Whereas, Mr. Bethune has served with distinction in many roles of leadership in the county including serving as a former member of the Clarendon County District 2 School Board and a long-time member of Rock Hill Missionary Baptist Church; and

Whereas, Thelmar Bethune, while maintaining his active civic life, has been a successful life-long farmer; and

Whereas, he has been a loving and devoted husband and father; and

Whereas, Mr. Bethune has been a member of the Brotherly Love Lodge No. 99 Masonic Order for many years; and

Whereas, Clarendon County is indeed thankful to have his very active and influential leadership in the business and political areas, which has proved to be successful in furthering many African American causes. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate commend Mr. Thelmar Bethune of Clarendon County on the occasion of the Fortieth Anniversary Celebration of the Manning Branch of the NAACP on March 6, 1999, and recognize Mr. Bethune's contributions to the Manning Branch of the NAACP and his other leadership roles in Clarendon County.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. Thelmar Bethune.
