EXPRESSING THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE UPON THE DEATH OF MR. STANLEY L. "STAN" NEWBY, JR. OF MCCORMICK AND EXTENDING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, the members of the Senate were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Mr. Stanley L. "Stan" Newby, Jr. of McCormick County, who died on February 26, 1999; and
Whereas, Mr. Newby, born in Lincolnton, was the son of Katrina Ashmore Newby and the late Stanley Lawrence Newby, Sr.; and
Whereas, he was a graduate of McCormick High School and attended Piedmont Technical College; and
Whereas, Mr. Newby began his career in emergency medical services as a volunteer in his early twenties, becoming a paramedic in 1988; and
Whereas, in 1992, he became the director of the McCormick County EMS and oversaw the successful transition from a volunteer staff to a fulltime, paid staff; and
Whereas, Mr. Newby was a model emergency medical services director and public servant and carried out his duties with excellence; and
Whereas, he treated his position and employees with the utmost respect and professionalism and went above and beyond the call of duty in his care and concern for every EMS patient; and
Whereas, he contributed generously of his time, talents, energy, and resources to his family, profession, and many friends; and
Whereas, he was a member of the Plum Branch Baptist Church; and
Whereas, "Stan" Newby was respected, admired, and loved in the city and county of McCormick and throughout the State and he will be greatly missed; and
Whereas, the members of the Senate want Mr. Newby's family and many friends know that they are uppermost in their thoughts and have the members' deepest sympathy. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That .the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, express profound sorrow upon the death of Mr. Stanley L. "Stan" Newby, Jr., of McCormick, and extend deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the family of Mr. Newby.
