TO APPROVE REGULATIONS OF THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION, RELATING TO DEFINED PROGRAM GRADES 9-12, DESIGNATED AS REGULATION DOCUMENT NUMBER 2317, PURSUANT TO THE PROVISIONS OF ARTICLE 1, CHAPTER 23, TITLE 1 OF THE 1976 CODE.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. The regulations of the defined program grades 9-12, relating to defined program grades 9-12, designated as Regulation Document Number 2317, and submitted to the General Assembly pursuant to the provisions of Article 1, Chapter 23, Title 1 of the 1976 Code, are approved.
SECTION 2. This joint resolution takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
This regulation amends Regulation 43-234, Defined Program 9-12. This regulation sets out a basic high school program including subjects, number of courses, periods weekly, minimum minutes, etc. This regulation amends and aligns Regulation 43-234 with the intent of the Education Accountability Act of 1998. The South Carolina General Assembly amended Section 59-39-100 (Issuance of Uniform Diplomas by Accredited High Schools, Units Required) of the South Carolina Code of Laws as amended, 1976, which now requires twenty-four units for a state high school diploma rather than twenty units. In addition, this regulation provides for amendments as per Section 59-39-190 (STAR Diploma)
