CONGRATULATING AND HONORING ALFRED LEWIS MCCARTY OF WEST COLUMBIA FOR HIS EXEMPLARY SERVICE TO THE LAW ENFORCEMENT PROFESSION, AND WISHING HIM SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS FOLLOWING HIS RETIREMENT.
Whereas, Alfred Lewis McCarty of West Columbia graduated from Brookland Cayce High School in 1961, from Palmer College with an associate degree in marketing in 1964, and from the FBI National Academy in 1979; and
Whereas, Lewis McCarty began his professional career with the West Columbia Police Department on November 1, 1964 and served until the end of 1972, leaving that position with the rank of lieutenant; he was named assistant sheriff of Lexington County on January 1, 1973; he went on to attain the rank of Chief Deputy Sheriff and the position of second-in-command in the Lexington County Sheriff's Department; and
Whereas, he will retire June 30, 1999, after more than three decades of outstanding law enforcement service; and
Whereas, he is respected and admired by all who have known him; he has carried out his duties with the greatest degree of professionalism, and we are delighted to have this opportunity to recognize him in this special manner. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulates and honors Alfred Lewis McCarty of West Columbia for his exemplary service to the law enforcement profession and wishes him success and happiness following his retirement.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Chief McCarty.
