CONGRATULATING MASHBURN CONSTRUCTION COMPANY ON ITS GROWTH FOR ALMOST A QUARTER OF A CENTURY INTO A THRIVING BUSINESS THAT NOW REQUIRES EXPANDED FACILITIES, AND EXPRESSING GRATITUDE FOR THE COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP AND EXEMPLARY CORPORATE CITIZENSHIP THAT MASHBURN'S OWNERS AND EMPLOYEES HAVE SHOWN.
Whereas, the General Assembly notes that Harry L. Mashburn, the chief executive officer and chairman of the board, began his business in Columbia in 1976 and has developed it into a strong, vital company with 100 full-time employees; and
Whereas, Mashburn Construction, under the leadership of Harry Mashburn; Lynn M. Shealy, President of Operations; Jane C. Andrews, Administrative Vice President; and Dennis N. Childs, Chief Estimator, has become a full-service construction company that has demonstrated commitment to cost control, quality of work and compliance with performance schedules for its clients in the public and private sector; and
Whereas, Mashburn Construction concentrates its work in the Midlands and coastal regions of South Carolina but is licensed in states throughout the Southeast; and
Whereas, Mashburn Construction specializes in commercial and industrial building work including medical facilities, office buildings, retail buildings, industrial buildings, lodging facilities and a variety of other special purpose buildings; and
Whereas, Mashburn employees have provided services or held offices in a legion of community groups or trade organizations including the United Way of the Midlands, the American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce, the Columbia Chamber of Commerce, the Columbia Contractors Association, the Volunteers of America-Children's Garden, and the National Association of Women in Construction; and
Whereas, Mr. Mashburn serves on the National Board of the Associated General Contractors and serves as chairman of the National Building Division; and
Whereas, the General Assembly is pleased for the opportunity to congratulate a strong business that contributes both to South Carolina's economy and to the entire community. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That by this resolution, the South Carolina General Assembly congratulates Mashburn Construction Company for almost a quarter of a century of service in the demanding construction industry, for its significant growth marked by the need for its new and larger facility, and for its devotion to community service.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Harry L. Mashburn.
