TO RECOGNIZE SUTTON BRANCH BAPTIST CHURCH'S CELEBRATION OF ITS 137TH ANNIVERSARY AND TO RECOGNIZE ITS SERVICE TO ITS MEMBERS AND THE PEOPLE OF THE COMMUNITY.
Whereas, the Sutton Branch Baptist Church will celebrate its 137th Anniversary on May 19, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. with a service of rededication, dedication, and praise; and
Whereas, the Sutton Branch Baptist Church was founded in the 1870's and named for a small stream near the church located in the southwest corner of Kershaw County at Lugoff; and
Whereas, for well over a century the Sutton Branch Baptist Church has pursued a ministry dedicated to excellence in preaching Biblical truth and its application; and
Whereas, the church has enjoyed the leadership of many excellent pastors who have held the flock together through many significant events in the church's history, including World War I and the Great Depression, and is currently being led into the future by Reverend Willie J. Duncan; and
Whereas, by cherishing the past, serving the present, and fearlessly facing the future, the church promotes its mission and serves its community through its Beautification Committee, Burial Committee, Food Committee, Jubilee Choir, Musical Choir, Program Committee, Publicity Committee, Recreational Committee, Ushers, and Women's Missionary Society; and
Whereas, the Sutton Branch Baptist Church should be congratulated for its long and valued service to its members and the people of the community. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the Sutton Branch Baptist Church is hereby recognized for the celebration of its 137th anniversary on May 19, 2002 and is hereby congratulated for its outstanding service to its members and people of the community.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Reverend Willie J. Duncan and Ms. Tallulah E. Walker.
